Snow Clearing

Each winter the Public Works Department maintains more than 50 kilometers of roads, streets and lanes as well as the many kilometers of sidewalks within the municipality. We consistently try to accomplish this task in the most timely manner possible and on a priority basis.

As winter progresses, you may notice a change to snow clearing operations. Municipal staff are working to find a balance between cost control and maintaining Dalhousie’s streets over the winter. This may mean that it takes longer to clear residential streets and sidewalks when it snows, and that street widening after storms may be less frequent.

During any snow event, the Public Works Department appreciates your cooperation; please be patient, we will get to your street as soon as possible.

Also, snow and ice control is not a substitute for caution and defensive driving practices when operating a vehicle in winter conditions.

Snow on Streets

The Town of Dalhousie wishes to advise the public of section 16 and 40 of the Town of Dalhousie By-Law 302-05 respecting streets, sidewalks and public places which states:
Section 16 – No person shall deposit upon a street or sidewalk any snow or ice removed from any lot or building.

Section 40 – Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this By-Law is guilty of an offense and shall upon conviction be liable to a penalty not exceeding TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00) and the payment of a voluntary penalty of THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS ($35.00) within 48 hours shall constitute a plea of guilty.

This measure is necessary in order to allow for efficient and safe snow removal and ice control operations.

Winter Parking

The Town of Dalhousie wishes to advise the public of section 12 (1.9) of the Town of Dalhousie By-Law 303-07 which states:

(a) No person being the owner or operator of a vehicle shall, between the hours of twelve (12) o’clock midnight of any day and seven (7) o’clock in the morning on the next day, park or leave standing any vehicle on any of the streets of the Town of Dalhousie from the first day of November and during the months of December, January, February and March.

This measure is necessary in order to allow for efficient and safe snow removal and ice control operations.

Non-compliant vehicle owners are subject to a fine and their vehicle could be towed at their expense. The Town would like to thank its citizens for their understanding and continued support in making our streets safer through the winter season.
